2GIG Being Sold To Nortek, Vivint to Continue Partnership

It was announced today that alarm system equipment manufacturer 2Gig! Technologies is being sold to Nortek, a lifestyle innovation company on the cutting edge of new home technologies. 2Gig was founded in 2009 by two former Honeywell employees, Scott Simon and Lance Dean. The two formed a working relationship with Nortek before the launch of 2Gig, as Nortek assisted Simon and Dean while they worked on designs for their products. 2Gig is known for having one of the first all in one touch screen Control Panels, known as the Go! Control Panel. It is a consumer favorite and is used by one of the alarm system industry’s largest providers Vivint. Vivint, as it turns out, is also 2Gig’s largest customer. The sale of 2Gig to Nortek will not deter any future relationship, however, as Vivint will continue to use 2Gig wireless alarm systems as their primary home alarm system offering. The tight knit relationship between 2Gig in Nortek throughout the last five years is a major reason that companies like Vivint will continue to offer the equipment to its customers. President of Linear, a child company of Nortek, Mike O’Neal told Security Systems News that, “Our partnership with 2GIG goes back about five years. We worked with 2GIG on developing the original panel as well as the systems that have evolved around that panel…We have a very tight working relationship.”

The sale is reported to be around $135 Million and is estimated to be completed within the next month. Simon and Dean will join Linear/Nortek after the sale and continue to work on bringing the best home efficiency products to the world. One former 2Gig executive, Todd Santiago, will join Vivint as their Chief Sales Officer as Vivint looks to expand its presence domestically and internationally.
