How to Avoid False Alarms

False alarms happen. If you’ve got a home alarm system, you might make a simple mistake and end up tripping off your alarm system when you don’t mean to. It’s not the end of the world and it deifniftely happens.

When home alarm systems first started to become more mainstream, false alarms were much worse. The alarm system company was not the first responder to the call, the police were. This sounds like a good idea, in theory but in the case of a false alarm, you’ve just sent the police, firetrucks, etc to your home when you don;t really need to. It would cost a fortune! To mediate this problem, all alarm system companies started responding to calls personally. They call your home and ask if there is a problem. If the answer is yes, then they call the authorities. It’s a simple step that saves everyone time and money down the road.

If you trip your alarm system, there are a few things that you need to do. The first of which is to stay calm. Just pause and think about your next step. It might sound super simple (and it is) but it’s hard to focus when you have an alarm beeping at you and a baby crying or dog barking.

You are going to have o disarm the alarm system. Go to the control panel and turn off the false alarm. Wait a minute and the alarm system company will call your home to ask if everything is ok. If it’s not, then tell them. But if you just forgot to disarm your alarm system when you walked in the door after a long day of work, you will need to give them a security code. Once that has been confirmed, you should be in the clear.

If you have a false alarm and you’re not really sure why, definitely call your alarm system company. They should be able to help you solve the problem so that it can be avoided down the road.
