How Intruders Pick Their Homes
Intruders look for certain signs when choosing a target for burglary. Having a home alarm system can certainly help you protect your home. But making sure you don’t fall into any of these traps will help you down the line. A home alarm system is the first step, but it’s up to you after that. Home alarm systems make homes 3x LESS likely to break into a home.
Tips:
1. If you’re on vacation, make sure someone is picking up your mail and newspapers. One of the first signs of an empty home are a full mailbox and newspapers piled in front of your house.
2. Sometimes a burglar will knock on a door first to see if anyone is home. If the answer is no, then the number of ways to break into the home skyrocket. But if you answer, they might make up a story and more onto the next home or scope out what’s inside before coming back at a later date.
3. Having a large dog is a simple deterrent. We’re not saying everyone should go out and get a big, mean guard dog. But if you have one, pay attention to it. Their presence is usually scary enough to keep away any unwanted people.
4. Do you have valuables inside of your home? Most people do and it’s easy enough to figure out how much by the neighborhood. Be very careful about what is within view of your open window. In addition, used boxes for valuable items may be laying in the trash can or on the street can give a burglar insight. You are advertising that you just purchased that new laptop or flat screen TV when you do not dismantle or dispose of the box properly
Hopefully these tips will help you down the road. Obviously, our number one suggestion is to get one of the top alarm systems for you home.
