The Ways a Burglar Can Break In
We’ve used this picture before, but we think it’s a great infographic about the ways that burglars break into a home. This isn’t to say that there are other ways, but it’s a good idea to check it out and make sure that your home isn’t an easy target because of a few simple mistakes.
The more you know, the easier it will be to pick out an alarm system, which is the best method of defense (aside from these tips) that you can have. It’s always better to be safe and homes with an alarm system are 3x less likely to be broken in to. Burglars don’t want to deal with an alarm system or the risk that comes with it.
Firstly, the most common way that burglars break into he home isn’t really that creative. It’s through a door. Generally the door isn’t locked or you’ve “hidden” a key. This kind of habit is just asking for trouble. If it’s locked and they really want in, they can pick the lock using tools or perhaps a credit card. If your front door is glass, they could break the glass on he door.
Windows are the second most popular entry point for a burglar. This can become cumbersome in the summertime because people leave their windows open to let in a breeze. Yes, it’s fine to leave them open while you’re home. But as soon as you leave, those windows should be closed and locked. No questions about it. If you leave a window open or unlocked, it’s pretty easy for a burglar to sneak in or reach in and grab for keys or anything near the window.
Manual garage doors are also easy targets. If you’ve got a sturdy garage door that’s mechanical, you are probably fine. However, don’t go leaving it open all day. That lets nosy potential burglar poke around your garage and get an idea of what’s in your home.
Hopefully these tips have helped you in protecting your home. We suggest looking at he infographic is greater detail too! The best alarm systems are a great way to protect your home down the road.
