Are Home Automation Systems Worth It?
In the last several years home security companies have begun offering home automation systems and devices that integrate with your home security system. Home automation systems have become more and more popular as they’re becoming much easier to install, maintain, and use on a daily basis. Not to mention using the right home automation devices can help reduce your energy usage and help you save money on your home energy bills.
Some of the most popular devices for homeowners currently are lighting devices for lamps and recessed lighting, electronic door locks, and thermostats. Home automation lighting devices allow you to control lighting inside your home when you’re away, or sitting on the couch using your smartphone or a an internal remote control. The same goes for door locks and thermostats. The most enticing part of using home automation devices is being able to manage them when you’re not at home. For instance you can turn the temperature up or down when you’re not home, or pop on the AC on your way home on a hot summer day. You can turn off lights when you get to work if you forgot before you left, and even unlock your doors from the stop sign around the corner when you know you’ll have your hands full on the way in.
Home automation systems are very convenient, but are they worth the money?
I’m sure you have left the house before and had the AC blasting, only to come home knowing you’ve racked up your energy bill by being a bit forgetful. It’s ok, we know you’re busy. The same goes for lights. How many times have you left lights on accidentally? While doing it once or twice probably won’t cost you, if you tend to do it a lot or have understandably absent minded children or teens around the home home automation systems can make your life easier and save you money.
What’s even more impressive about home automation systems is that you can automate them! While there have been timers for lights and automatic thermostats around for some time, only recently have they gone wireless and been easily installed in a DIY fashion.
All in all, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, home automation systems are certainly worth it. The cost of home automation devices has come down, and even if you were to purchase a home automation system with a lot of devices the money you’ll save will essentially allow the system to pay for itself. Even if you have a tight budget initially you can always add devices to your home automation system at a later time. And as we said before, you can even integrate home automation systems with your home security system – creating a smart and fully protected home.
