Monitored Alarm System vs. Unmonitored
You have a number of options when it comes to installing an alarm system into your home. One of the most basic options out there entails purchasing a monitored alarm system or just a typical alarm system that makes noise when there in an intruder. It is our opinion that if you’re going to get an alarm system, it is imperative that you also purchase the monitoring package. Your home alarm system would be connected to a network, where if there happens to be a problem, then someone will be notified. A non-monitored alarm system just doesn’t offer nearly the same benefits.
Here’s the run down of Monitored Alarm Systems:
+Tons of options to choose from
+Your home is always secure
+There is a lower up-front cost (because you have purchased a contract)
+Potential discount on homeowners insurance
+Can be monitored for a variety of problems (break in, fire, environmental)
+Customer service and help down the road
-You assume a monthly fee
-If you have not purchased a cellular alarm system, then phone lines and broadband might still be vulnerable.
Now what about un-monitored alarm systems?
+Less expensive long term.
+Easier set up
+Can purchase separate from a buyer and mix/match what you want protecting your home.
-No one to call the police if alarm goes off
-More work for you to maintain it
-Larger up-front cost
-No customer service or support if there is a problem.
Alarm System Report exclusively recommends purchasing a Monitored alarm system. It just doesn’t really make sense to do it any other way. Yes, you assume a monthly fee. But what you get without the “monitoring” seems pretty useless when you are not home.
