As do it yourself alarm systems are a major part of the top alarm companies featured in our alarm system reviews we felt it would be beneficial to share some of these do it yourself alarm system questions and answers.

Here are a few of the common questions about do it yourself alarm systems:

How Long Does It Take To Install Do It Yourself Alarm Systems?

Do it yourself alarm systems are also wireless alarm systems. Meaning there are no wires to run or holes to drill. This makes it much easier to install a do it yourself alarm system. Most people can install a do it yourself alarm system in under an hour. The installation normally consists of plugging in the main Control Panel, “peeling and placing” the wireless sensors, and contacting the alarm company for activation. With that said, most people should allot one hour of time to install a do it yourself alarm system.

Do I Need Any Tools To Install Do It Yourself Alarm Systems?

The short answer is no. You will not need any tools when installing a do it yourself alarm system. However, if you want to mount your Control Panel on the wall you will likely need a standard phillips head screwdriver. You may be able to get by without it, but it’s a good thing to use if you do want to mount your Control Panel. You will not need any tools for the alarm sensors or any other devices. The devices CAN be mounted if you so choose, and in this instance the screwdriver can be used for this as well. But in most cases you can simply set your Control Panel on a table and use the adhesive to mount your sensors.

Are Do It Yourself Alarm Systems As Reliable As ‘Professionally’ Installed Alarm Systems?

Absolutely. A do it yourself alarm system is not any less reliable than any other alarm system. Just because you are installing it doesn’t make it “worse” than another system. The Control Panel works the same way, the sensors work the same way, and the DIY alarm system will operate the same way as any other. The alarm company will also remotely “check” your system to make sure everything is in working order before activating your system. All in all, do it yourself alarm systems are just as reliable as an alarm system installed by a technician or so-called professional.

What If I Can’t Install A Do It Yourself Alarm System, Where Do I Turn?

If you attempt to install a do it yourself alarm system and simply cannot do it, or if you have a physical ailment that doesn’t allow you to install the system there are a few things you can do. First, you can ask a friend or family member for assistance. If you have a neighbor of family member that is willing to help you get the system installed it is the best case scenario. You won’t have to pay for an installation and you get to spend some time with someone you love! If you don’t have a friend of family member in the area to assist, you can contact the alarm company to ask if they can have someone come out to install the system for you. This will likely come at an additional cost, however. Finally, if all else fails, most alarm companies will allow you to return the DIY alarm system within 30 days to receive a full refund.
